Well Google is at it again. Now they are venturing into the OS market with the plans of launching Google Chrome OS based on Linux. Till now Google followed different strategy to Microsoft in terms of how to make revenue. It focused on making revenue by selling ads on internet and increasing its subscriber base by giving free services to its users in terms of email, online office suite etc.
Google plans to turn its browser Google Chrome into a Google Chrome OS. But the real question that comes into mind is that how much market share does Google Chrome has in terms of internet browsing space. The leader of the pack is still Internet Explorer way ahead of its next best rival Firefox. Firefox is adding to its user base even at this time while you are reading this and Google Chrome is trying to get the users of Internet Explorer to come to its side. Certainly Google with just over 1% of market share is not winning the browser war at the moment.
Switching user loyalty from one browser to another does not involve any monetary shift for the user. But shifting an OS is different thing all together. Considering the big brains at Google cannot topple the Mozillas baby, chances are that they will fail to win the OS war as well.
