On 6th July Yamaha launched its new bike in the 150 CC segment the Fazer 153 at a price of Rs 72,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This came along with the inauguration of its Surajpur plant which will be used for making Fazer and other models as well.
Yamaha has been going aggressive in trying to regain the market which it has lost to players like Bajaj, TVS and Hero Honda in premium segment. This segment appeals more to the pace loving youth and once Yamaha was leader in this market with its cult bike Yamaha Rx-100. Ever since then it had been trying different bikes but failed to capture the imagination of Indian youth. But with launch of two new bikes FZ-16 and R-15 it has made serious inroads. Let’s hope Fazer 153 continues the trend.
Meanwhile Bajaj is going back to 100 cc segment to increase the dropping sales number. Now thats one strategy gone wrong.
